Creating an Organization
Who creates it
Any signed-in user can create an organization. The creator automatically becomes the Owner — they hold the billing relationship and the highest permission level.
You can only have one owner per organization. Ownership can be transferred later, but cannot be split.
Steps
- Sign in and open Organization from the main navigation.
- If you don't already belong to one, you'll see Create Organization. Click it.
- Enter:
- Organization name — shown to members and on invoices.
- Billing email (optional) — where receipts are sent. Defaults to your own account email.
- Confirm. The organization is created and you are set as its owner.
At this point the organization exists but has no paid subscription attached — it inherits the Free tier until you upgrade.
Activating shared features
Shared projects and member management sit behind the team-workspace gate (Team tier and above). To turn them on:
- Go to Organization → Billing.
- Pick the Team plan (or higher).
- Choose your initial seat count. The Team plan is priced per seat, so the monthly charge is
priceUSD × seatCount. You can only pick at or above the plan'sminSeatsvalue. - Complete checkout. The subscription activates immediately.
Once the subscription is active, Organization → Members unlocks and you can start inviting people. See Members and Roles.
What the organization owns
After creation, the organization is the "home" for:
- Shared projects — visible to all active members according to their role.
- The organization subscription — plan, seats, billing history, payment methods.
- Usage tracking — monthly AI Actions and test runs consumed by members while working in org projects count against the org's limits, not the individual's personal account.
- Audit data — member changes, role changes, and seat changes are recorded against the org.
Personal projects remain attached to the individual user and are not migrated into the organization.
